"With this technology, you can travel from Los Angeles to San Francisco in just 45 minutes".
Does that sound too good to be true? If so, get ready to be thrilled. In this article, you'll discover how Vacuum Trains can make this become a reality.
It might surprise you to know that the idea of vacuum trains appeared more than a century ago. It was introduced by an American engineer Robert Goddard in 1904 who produced several prototypes of these trains. Elon Musk in 2012 reiterated this idea even though he now called them "hyperloops". When it is finished, a hyperloop will travel as fast as 800mph. Some of the companies dedicated to the revolution are: Virgin Hyperloop, Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, Transpod, Arrivo and so on. It is absolutely right to say these ideas are out of the paper and are becoming a reality as he first ride in a hyperloop occured in November 2020. It was conducted by Virgin Hyperloop with just two of their employees onboard. Here is a video clip of the ride:
The mode of operation of vacuum trains is based on the principle that moving an object through a tube of low pressure will increase its speed. Going by this fact, vacuum trains which look more like capsules in sci - fi movies are transported through a tube with all the air evacuated leaving a vacuum making it possible for them to move at very high speeds. These tubes have vacuum pumps ( which should be at most 30 miles apart ) under them which help to pump out 99.9% of the air in the tube. At the start of a journey, the train would first travel through some air locks which helps to reduce more and more of the air pressure in the tunnel after which it can now achieve its highest speed which could be as high as 2500 mph(4000km/h). One way to make this trains travel even faster is to use "magnetic levitation" - allowing the trains to move over a bed of permanent magnets thereby reducing the friction even more. Some trains were produced in Shangai and they work solely on this principle giving them the name "Maglev Trains".
It is mind blowing to think that if these tubes could be laid under water, it would be possible for an individual to live in one country and travel to work in another country every single day. Even though there are many adjustments that still need to be made before this high-speed trains can fit into the global transportation system, we can be confident that very soon, we will be able to get rid of all the transportation problems facing us today.
